5 Vegan, Soy Free, and Gluten Free Travel Snacks

Life lately has been a whirlwind of travel. Watching clouds spread out under airplane wings like an ocean of meringue. Counting cows as I whip down country roads. Taking note of decrepit diners in mountain towns, forlorn neon signs flashing. Sinking my feet into sandy beaches. Picking strange flowers from unkempt upgrowths around strange sidewalks. Loading the car. Unloading the car. Kicking accumulated trash out under my feet in the passenger seat: glass kombucha bottles, empty chip bags, plastic hummus containers. And as soon as we get home it feels like I’m packing up my bag again.

I’ve become a real pro at packing in a snap. I’ve got all of the basics plus entertainment and some creature comforts. And food. Always food.

One of my main traveling challenges is eating well. My particular diet makes most airport / gas-station / middle-of-nowhere eating options impossible. I don’t want to feel sick or off-balance when I’m in a new place. I want to eat well and live well no matter where I am. Packing good food for my trips —particularly for the in-transit parts — always ends up being crucial to my happiness.

These 5 vegan, soy free, and gluten free travel snacks are some of my favorite recipes from the past year on Will Frolic for Food. Not only are they delicious but they’re easy to make and they're highly nutritious. A small serving of any one of these recipes packs a hunger-fighting punch.

hemp tahini date caramel bars | 5 vegan, soy, and gluten free travel snacks | recipe via willfrolicforfood.comHemp Tahini Date Caramel Bars | One of the most popular recipes on the blog! These squares of caramel-chocolate goodness taste like candy bars. And happen to be crazy healthy. I admit, Logan and I finished off a pan of these in 24 hours. We just. couldn't. stop!

I have a break from traveling over the next two weeks (woohoo!). And then Logan and I will be heading out to Portland and Seattle for a week long trip. After that, I've got trips to Austin, Ashville, and New York on the horizon. And maybe a journey to a tropical destination in February. Want to hang out? Let's hang out.
