Magic Macadamia Serum with Essential Oils

This post is sponsored by my friends over at Mountain Rose Herbs.

Dry skin in Winter is the bane of my existence.

If you have dry skin you understand the struggle to keep your face feeling fresh and moisturized as Fall and Winter roll around. Without an effective facial moisturizer you're headed for that dreaded chapped, tight feeling — or worse, lizard-skin. Yikes.

I’ve found the best solution when it comes to my own dry, sensitive skin issues is an oil-based serum that’s moisturizing, balancing and nourishing. My go-to is a base of macadamia nut oil with a touch of rosehip seed oil combined with essential oils.

I know, I know… it sounds too simple to be legit.

AND YET.

It’s magically one of the best things I’ve ever stumbled upon for my skin-care routine. It’s a year-round, all-skin-types-friendly formula that naturally locks in moisture without clogging pores.

This serum is:

  • All natural.

  • Luxurious.

  • Easy to make.

  • Moisturizing.

  • Nourishing.

  • Non-comodegenic (doesn’t clog pores).

  • Rich in monounsaturated fats.

  • Plant-based.

  • Appropriate for all skin-types.

  • Especially great for dry and mature skin.

Macadamia oil is an oil extracted from macadamia nuts — as you can imagine, it’s luscious. It mimics the skin-protective sebum (skin oil) that humans naturally produce, which is what makes it a go-to in my skincare routine. In my experience it soaks into the skin quickly and leaves me feeling soft and moisturized. It’s delightful. And, amazingly, very few people know that it can be used as a facial oil. If you take anything away from this post, let it be that macadamia oil is amazing!

Rosehip seed oil is a beloved (and well-researched) oil for reducing fine lines and redness. It’s a “dry oil” meaning that it soaks into your skin without being greasy. I consider it a “super oil” — it’s so beneficial to the skin that it’s a must-have product on my shelves.

The essential oils in this formula are:

There are myriad skin benefits to these oils (click the links on each word to learn more). I’ll leave it to you to research these E.O.’s. I add all of them to my formula, making it especially luxurious and magical. But you could use any combination of them that you prefer.

If I were to choose only 3 I’d suggest lavender, carrot seed oil and geranium. They’re the most beloved (and more affordable) E.O'.’s I tend to see in luxury skin care formulas.

Notes: In the photos you’ll see I made my serum with rose petals in one jar and chamomile in the other jar. I mainly did this for the aesthetic, although you can certainly add dry herbs and then strain them out later as you like. I am letting them sit under the moonlight and I’ll be straining the herbs out before using these serums.
