Blood Orange Gin Cocktail with Turmeric, Rosemary and Maple

Blood orange + gin + rosemary + turmeric + maple + lemon + ginger beer. Shaken over ice. Strained into vintage coupes. A little cocktail from heaven, perfect for Winter sipping! And equally good without any alcohol at all, I might add. I just love the dark cranberry red color of these cocktails. They’re refreshing, citrusy and a bit woodsy from the turmeric. The ginger beer gives it fizz and spice, and the maple syrup gives it some sweetness and just a hint of Winter wonder. I think they’re perfect for Christmas or New Years gatherings. But, not gonna lie, I love citrusy cocktails like this one all year long. You can probably find me recreating this in July, no doubt.

I’m not super into alcoholic beverages generally, but I do enjoy a boozy sip occasionally. A cocktail or glass of wine here are there can be a lovely simple pleasure. Most nights you can find me sipping a zevia (stevia-sweetened sugar free soda), kombucha or hot cup of tea. But there’s nothing quite as nice as a boozy nip when you just want to feel fanciful. This cocktail is the sort of sip I make for evening hangouts with my girlfriends. And I’m sure I’ll end up offering to make at my friends’ Christmas parties (I always offer to play bartender or chef, just give me something to do so I can avoid small talk please).

Blood Orange Gin Cocktail

Active prep time: 5 mins - Inactive prep time: 0 mins - Total cook time: 0 mins - Makes: ~2 servings - Tips: You can use any sort of orange you like for this, but I think blood orange is the best!

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp rosemary needles, about 2 sprigs rosemary

  • Juice of 2 blood oranges

  • Juice of one 1 lemon

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1/2 tbsp maple syrup

  • 2 tbsp gin (or more if you’d like it very strong)

  • Ginger beer to taste, about 1/4 cup

  1. In a cocktail shaker, combine rosemary needles, orange juice, lemon juice, turmeric, maple syrup, gin, and 2 large ice cubes. Shake until well combined. Divide into two cocktail glasses, top with ginger beer to taste. Enjoy!
